TAMIS

TAMIS stands for Trans-Anal Minimally Invasive Surgery. It is a technique that has been available now for the last 10-15 years to allow surgeons to remove large and flat polyps. These polyps can be difficult to remove through colonoscopy. Through the TAMIS procedure, these polyps can be removed trans-anally, without abdominal incisions. It also allows the polyp to be removed in one complete piece instead of removal in multiple pieces through the colonoscope. Prior to this procedure, many patients would have had to undergo a bowel resection to allow the polyp bearing bowel to be removed.
